The Housing Network is the state association of twenty Rhode Island non-profit Community Development Corporations. Our members have created thousands of affordable housing units throughout the state. The Network supports the work of our member Community Development Corporations, and promotes public awareness and policies that address Rhode Island’s housing and community economic needs.
The HN has three major programs:
The Homeownership Connection is the administrative spoke for a collaborative of ten member Community Development Corporations providing Rhode Islanders with the tools and support to achieve, maintain and sustain homeownership. We help our neighbors navigate the path to homeownership by preparing them for the responsible purchase and financing of a home through HUD certified Homebuyer education classes offered by our members across the state.
The Partnership for Community Development with Roger Williams University is committed to raising awareness about community development issues, to strengthening the professional skills of the housing and community development industry, and to attracting a new generation of professionals to the field. The Partnership offers both a five-course Housing, Economic and Community Development Certificate program and a concentration in Community Development in the Bachelor of General Studies.
The Community Housing Land Trust of RI is a statewide non-profit membership program of the Housing Network that serves homeowners, tenants and municipalities throughout Rhode Island. Its mission is to ensure a supply of permanently affordable housing for generations of Rhode Islanders in perpetuity. By safeguarding a pool of affordable homes that are held in trust or administered by the Community Housing Land Trust of RI, low and moderate income households will have access to decent affordable housing throughout the state well into the future. CHLT administers a CDBG revolving fund for property acquisition that creates affordable housing in non-entitlement municipalities. CHLT is an approved affordable housing monitoring agent.
