Homeownership Connection classes are offered in various sites
through out the state. Classes are held commonly Monday-Thursday
evenings, Saturday Mornings and on one or two weekday mornings.
The classes are offered in English and Spanish regularly with
additional languages added based on need.
When registering for classes, fee must be paid prior to taking
the class to ensure you will have a seat. The class fee can
be paid either by check, money order or using a credit/debit
card.

Homebuyer Classes
Buying My Home
Buying My Home is the Homeownership Connection Core Class,
it is designed for people who are ready or will be ready within
six months to be pre-approves for a mortgage. The class is
a twelve-hour class that meets on six consecutive weeks for
two hours per session.
Session 1- in this session you will:
• Identify the steps in the home buying process
• Evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of homeownership
• Calculate your monthly income
• Understand language used in the buying process
• Decide whether homeownership is right for you
Session 2- in this session you will:
• Recognize spending patterns
• Identify what type of spender you are
• Define needs vs. wants
• Create your own monthly budget
• Develop a savings plan
• Understand savings accounts
Session 3- in this session you will:
• Identify the various types of credit
• Understand credit scoring
• Develop a plan for increasing your credit scores
• Realize your rights as a consumer
• Recognize and address Identity Theft
• Equip yourself with tools for correcting errors on
your credit report
Session 4- in this session you will:
• Evaluating your “wants vs. needs” in your
dream home
• Understand the role of a real estate agent
• Develop a shopping plan for a home
• Understand the components of a Purchase and Sales

Session 5- in this session you will:
• Identify the types of home loans available
• Recognize predatory lending practices
• Realize your rights as a consumer
• Equip yourself with the proper tools to shop for a
home loan
• Understand the best loan for you
Session 6- in this session you will:
• Understand the different types of homeowner insurance
• Recognize the different papers which will be used
at CLOSING
• Identify the steps to protect your home from foreclosure
• Develop a plan for maintaining your home
• Understand the seriousness of lead in older homes
and the ways to protect my home and family from lead poisoning
Financial Fundamentals
Financial Fundamentals is designed for people who will need
than more six months to prepare to become pre-approved for
a mortgage. The class is a Eighteen-hour class that meets
on ten consecutive weeks for two hours per session.
Session 1-in this session you will:
• Identify what type of spender you are
• Define needs vs. wants
• Create your own monthly budget
Session 2-in this session you will:
• To evaluate your spending patterns
• How to create a savings plan
• How money can grow
Session 3-in this session you will:
• Identify the various types of credit

Fast Track (8 Hours)
The Fast Track class is designed for people who either have
a signed Purchase and Sales Agreement and/or an expired homebuyer-training
certificate. The class is an eight-hour class that meets on
two consecutive weeks for four hours per session. The fast
track cover the topics list in “Buying My Home”
in an accelerated manner.
ELECTIVES
How to be a Successful Landlord
How to be a successful Landlord is designed for current or
future multi-family homeowners. The class is six hours and
meets on either two consecutive weeks for three hours per
session or meets three consecutive weeks for two hours per
session.
Condo
This class is designed for first-time homebuyers who have
decided to or are interested in exploring the option of purchasing
a condominium. The class is six hours and meets either two
consecutive weeks for three hours per session or three consecutive
weeks for two hours per session.
Land Trust
This class is designed for first-time homeowners who are purchasing
a home through a non-profit developer who manages a land-trust
or through the statewide land trust. The class will illustrate
the unique regulations involved in owning a land trust home.
Habitat for Humanity Homes
This class is specifically designed for homeowners who participate

This class is designed to assist those who currently own a
home. The class includes spending plans, savings, understanding
credit and retirement and investment information.
